From repetitive work to automation
We had a talk with Martin Slothuus, Project Manager Automation, about Centrum Pæle’s focus on automation.

Repetitive work are work processes that the employee does many times throughout a day. It can be both physically demanding for the employee and time consuming.
At Centrum Pæle we have a lot of repetitive work in our production. This is partly because what we do is complicated and there are no automated methods to replace it. Therefore we often have to develop our own automated equipment.
Martin Slothuus is project manager for automation at Centrum Pæle, he is in charge of developing and testing automation projects.
One of our most influential pieces of automation equipment is our auto cage yokes.
Auto cage yokes are, in short, a lifting beam with hooks that can automatically grip the net, all hooks are located on the crane that lifts the reinforcement net into the molds – Martin explains
In the past, when the reinforcement cages had to be lifted by crane from the trailer into the molds, it took two people to help each other. It was also physically hard on their wrists and backs as they had to walk and put on and take off the hooks while bending down while standing on the molds.
Since the auto cage yokes were introduced, working time has been freed up as this process can now be done by one person instead of 2. At the same time, the quality has improved and there are fewer task changes during the day, which has helped to reduce stress levels.
